Thoughts on the Freedom Convoy

Today is an important day in Canada as a thousands of trucks and hundreds of thousands of people descend upon Ottawa to protest for freedom. It remains to be seen if estimated numbers are correct, if the foundational issue over vaccine mandates becomes the central issue, and whether the protest is either peaceful or effective. So because this is on all of our hearts and minds I thought I’d take some time to share some of my thoughts. I’m not going…

Plans Change…

It’s been a while since I did an update on how Stephanie is doing, and instead of me doing it for her, she did an update herself. I thought I would give a little update on how things are going and where I am at in my cancer journey. When you are diagnosed with cancer, your case is examined by a Tumour Board at the cancer center you are receiving treatment at. This is so that there are many eyes…

Some Good News!

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns! Isaiah 52:7 NLT Yesterday was a good day, not only was it our oldest daughter’s birthday but we also had a phone appointment with Stephanie’s surgeon because the Pathology results came back. He had hoped to remove as little of her right bronchus and right lung as possible. He had…

Pathways & Progress

It’s been 5 full days since Stephanie came home from the hospital after her surgery – which in the end became a pneumonectomy including the removal of part of her rib. She has 2 smaller incisions (about an inch) where they were able to use less invasive measures at the start of the surgery and a larger incision (about 6 inches) where they finished the surgery. She had incredible care at the hospital and a good plan coming home. Each…

Coming Home

The day started slow again yesterday. She was still in more pain than she should be or wants to be especially when she coughs – which happens most when she does her breathing exercises. She is actually supposed to cough to clear anything out and it helps her lung. They’ve found other types of pain medication that don’t make her sleepy or nauseated like the pain pump they took her off of the day before. She is spunky though, she…

Making Progress

The past couple of days have had lots of ups and downs – both with Stephanie’s health and how she is feeling emotionally. She has been on so many monitors, had so many changes, and has been in a sweltering little “tropical paradise” that it was easy to get frustrated and overwhelmed. She has kept a good spirit about it all, with only a few understandable quiet or discouraged moments here and there. She was still struggling with being very…

Slowly But Surely

Today was the second full day after Stephanie’s surgery. She is doing well but has a tough road ahead. It seems like everything is a balancing act. In order to recover well she needs to do exercises, breathing exercises and start walking and moving. In order to do any of those she needs to have her pain controlled. She has also been dealing with nausea and when she moves around she often has motion sickness. In order to control the…

Surgery Day

Today, November 5th 2020, was Stephanie’s surgery day. We arrived at the hospital at 6am for the 9am operation. Stephanie was in surgery for about 6 hours. We are very thankful for the surgeon and the whole team who gave Stephanie the greatest of care. In order to remove the cancer with clean margins (an area with no cancer around the removal) they removed Stephanie’s right lung and as much of the other tissue as possible without damaging other areas.…
